Upgrade SSD firmare off USB drive - how to create bootable USB

Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade my SSD (Crucial C300 256Gb) off an USB drive, but am struggling to do it.
I have tried both Disk Utility and the dd command line. Disk Utility comes up with an error, and dd creates an iso, but when booting it doesn't show up on the list of partitions to boot off.

Have also tried that unetbootin tool, but it finishes it says the pendrive won't boot off a mac.

Any ideas?

What does the firmware update instructions state? Most go to a CD and so my recommendation use what ever method Crucial states in their documentation

I guess I'll do it, although burning a CD for just 3MB seems like a waste to me
