upgrade that never was

i bought a new mac mini on monday, it arrived on tuesday (free shipping from amazon was very impressed). set things up to do the auto migration from my last mini and waited 2 hours to transfer 60 gigs worth of stuff. When that finished I find out that my user was moved but none of my preferences passwords etc. instead i was starting from fresh (no iTunes etc.). How do I get my new machine back to fresh out of the box status so I can get all of those preferences brought over. I don't have the time to sit with this machine (and set up the old one) to recustomize everything.

i'm doing an erase and install of leopard on the new mini and pretending like it never had anything on it. it still frustrates me but im hoping this works.
