Upgrade the OS first or Upgrade the SSD first

I am thinking to replace the hdd to ssd for my Late 2012 13 inch macbook pro. I am not sure which way is better and easier. Upgrade the OS to ML then clone the hard drive to ssd and install ssd or backup the current hdd and install SSD withe clean ML then reload the backup stuff.

Definitely Backup, install ssd, install mountain lion clean, and restore
