I am using a 3GS on 4.0 that is not jailbroken. Are there any benefits/drawbacks to upgrading to 4.0.1?

It's almost exactly the same as 4.0 but for the cosmetic antenna reception fix and an Exchange bug fix. Since you're already on 4.0 it makes no difference either way.
I like the 4.0. 4.0.1 never shows full bars in my case. even though the phone tower is right out of my apartment window. The only time I saw full bars was when I went to the AT&T store and walked to the back of the store where they have an internal tower installed.
You'd be lying to yourself by sticking with 4.0 for that reason. Your 'full bars' aren't really full because the iPhone is reporting the signal strength incorrectly.
Upgrading from 4.0 to 4.0.1 caused me to lose my MMS function with RedSnow jailbreak. I've restored the phone no less that 5 times today with 4.0.1 and Jailbroke it with Redsnow. No MMS!!
I'd be happy to believe that if you could direct me on how to get the MMS function back on the 4.0.1 OS with a Redsn0w jailbreak. I've been restoring and jailbreaking this phone ALL day to no avail.

Your phone is unlocked, right? What carrier are you using? If it's not the official carrier, then you'll have to edit your APN with your new carrier's MMS server...

I violated the basic fundamental rule of cracking and jailbreaking.
I failed to check for the latest version of the software that I use for jailbreaking and this was the cause of my WASTED day trying to restore MMS.
I apologize I ever doubted the wisdom and insight found in this forum.

I was talking about restoring/upgrading to official 4.0.1

There was a reply in my other thread that "enlightened" me to say the least.
I was able to reinitiate the MMS function by using the latest version of Redsn0w. Like an idiot I was using a dated version.
