new member here. I have an early 2009 IMac C2D, 3.06 with 8gigs of ram. The machine is currently running OSX Mavericks. I recently replaced this ma home with an Imac Pro, but will keep the ‘09 around till she drops, in order to run 2 legacy programs, Final Cut Express and Logic 9.1.

Is there any advantage to upgrading this fully functional machine to El Capitan at this point?

Thanks!

That depends, I think, on whether or not you want to upgrade. I have an early 2009 21” iMac (8 gb RAM) with El Cap and I like it. It’s new enough to run everything I need, but doesn’t bog my system down.

I don’t think it’s a necessity, though.
