iPhone upgrade to GM erase songs playlists?

If you manage your music manually, will the GM update erase your music and playlists?
 
Yes, I updated through iTunes using the restore image and it removed everything from my iPhone.
 
Thanks for that!
Will restore from backup and backup my music separately.
