I installed High Sierra this morning and immediately I noticed something off with the colors. A lot of the darker colors look really washed out. It's especially noticeable when Night Shift is turned on. Things like the Terminal dock icon, the menu bar and dock with dark theme, Reddit pages with Night Mode enabled via RES; all of these look really washed out and gross.

I have run the "Verify" and "Repair" options in ColorSync Utility, and neither found anything wrong. Did High Sierra just change the way dark colors are rendered somehow? Or is there a way to fix this?

Technical specs:

macOS 10.13
Early 2015 Macbook Pro 13"

(I can post screenshots if necessary, but I was unsure if the problems would be visible to others if the issue is with my display).

Try a different color profile or create your own using the displays pref pane.

TIP:
To create your own, proceed this way:
- Open Displays pref pane
- Click "color"
- HOLD DOWN THE OPTION KEY and click "calibrate"
This gives you the expert features.

Thank you for the advanced settings tip. I followed the instructions to create a new color profile, and though it made things a bit better, you can still sense the difference between how it looks now and how it looked pre-High Sierra.

Further, I've noticed that the newly calibrated color profile does not last. This is the order of the phenomenon I've observed:

  1. Set the newly calibrated color profile via the Display pane in System Preferences.
  2. Observe that the colors are a bit darker, more like they were.
  3. Close system preferences and return to normal use.
  4. After a few seconds, the display will flicker once and abruptly change to the lighter colors again.
Any idea what's going on here?
