upgrade to Leopard is freezing at stage1

I am loading the DVD for Leopard onto my powerbook which is OSX10.4.11. it loads, brings up the box to double click on the install and then it freezes on a picture of the universe on fire and thats it ...

can you help please ?

Snow Leopard is Intel Mac only! The most a PowerBook could handle is Leopard (10.5.x).

it is not snow leopard

it is leopard 10.5.4

as i say it loads and i double click but it does nothing past a fancy picture - the installer is not opening
