So, I currently have an early 2013 rMBP 15" that I've been putting off upgrading for the longest time. It's become a terribly frustrating machine that overheats at times, buckles under a moderate workload, etc. I guess nothing too out of the ordinary for a 7 year old machine, considering how much things have changed over the last several years.

I have been trying to plan what I will purchase next, as I know I need to upgrade soon before this one either dies or I throw it at a wall...so my conundrum is: do I upgrade to a comparable machine (probably a refurbished 16" MBP) or has anyone switched to an iPad Pro? I like the idea of portability and versatility of the latter, but I'm concerned that I'll be frustrated with it not being an *actual* computer. Has anyone made that switch, or used both and has opinions on where the two stand?

I do a mix of things that I know would demand more from the machine, which is why I'm tempted towards another MBP, but I'm also not thrilled to spend over $2000 on a good machine with a terrible camera...especially with all of the Zoom meetings going on, and likely continuing at some point in the future. Considering Apple hasn't upgraded any of their notebook's cameras this year, I'm doubtful a 16" upgrade would also bring improvements, though maybe they will considering the recent boom in video conferencing.

Most of this is me overthinking things, and being hesitant to drop any sum of money like this, but I am curious if anyone else has made a similar switch, or has experience with both. I know any change will be better than what I'm using now, which isn't horrible but it can't handle much extra beyond what I'd consider basic stuff.

It would help to know exactly what kinds of things you do with your computer. I can almost guarantee you that an iPad Pro won‘t be enough as a sole computer. I use mine a ton but I have a Macbook Pro to fall back on when I need more power. I carry the latter to work about once a week and rely on the ipad Pro the rest of the time
