From Appleinsider:

"The two RAM slots are only accessible after removing the battery bay cover, the battery, and then taking off the back cover which is held in place by 8 screws. This is more work than the RAM slots that were accessible from inside the battery bay on the MacBooks, and slightly more complicated than removing the partial cover on the previous-generation MacBook Pro."

I suggest you take a look at the owner's manuals for both laptops first . Taking the bottom case off is required to install the RAM.

Sorry, maybe I should have phrased it differently, it's clearly upgradeable, but given that you need to take so much apart, would it void the warranty?

I don't think you read the owner's manual(s) if you're still asking this.

The owner's manual for both laptops provide instructions on taking the bottom case off to install the RAM and the specifications of the RAM.

No, I don't have one yet, that's great, thanks! A bit more work than we're used to, but I've built many systems before, wont be a problem.

I've already read both without even buying either laptop. ;)

The manuals showed up on Apple's support site late Tuesday.

the ddr3 ram is cheap now from apple.
Not when demand goes up and prices drop. Apple isn't going to drop its RAM prices unless it pulls a revision. All these new DDR3 SODIMM laptops are finally going to create that demand.

Does anyone know if the RAM is upgradeable in the new macbook/pro?
These pics on iFixit suggests it needs a removal of the bottom case, which would void the warranty :(

I'll take it apart if I have to, I'm not paying apple RAM tax. Would this be the first apple where the RAM wasn't user servicable?
