Hi,

Found a deal on an XS which shaved $200 off of the price of buying one new from the Apple Store so went and took the plunge. My thought is update to the XS from the X and then try to skip the iPhone 11 since it looks like an iterative update with most of the focus being on the cameras (which I don’t really care that much about).

One decision I made was to downgrade from 256gb to 64gb. The reason I did this is that I uploaded a lot of content onto my iPhone X 256gb but never watched it. My current thought is to just upload a handful of movies and then easily have 20 or 30gb free. I was just wondering if anyone else had done this or had any thoughts on this?

Thanks

I did this when the Max came out. I, personally, regret my decision. Here’s to hoping there is a 128gb base (or at least option) on the 11. I don’t like micro managing my storage, and have had to think about it more than in the past since purchasing the Max at launch. I usually dump unused content off once per year... now I do it monthly to ensure I have enough space for new pics/vids from vacations, new games or apps I want to try, or iOS updates.

Another downgrade is storage speed. Read many different sites showing the storage speed difference from the base 64gb to the 256gb

I doubt average Consumers take notice to storage speed differences. I do know the higher storage tiers obviously have higher speeds, but does that really play a part for someone that that does not know what to look for/notice in the first place? (Rhetorical)

For me the X and XS are too similar to do this and lose the storage (maybe for the Max though). But if you don't need it and you're happy then it doesn't matter.

I honestly rarely take videos and pictures so that is probably why I don't really need the storage. I had a Galaxy s9 with 64gb and never really needed extra space either. I went and got rid a lot of videos that I'd loaded onto my X and it's showing 36gb of used space, so that's 28gb left over for the 64gb XS I'm getting. From reviewing 1080p HD @ 30 frames/sec each hour is 3.6gb which is a little over 7 and a half hours of video.

I'm also getting a phone with 100% battery and AppleCare so there is that as well. That being said I could be totally wrong by trying 64gb and end up updating to a 256gb XS or 128gb XI if that is the base storage option. :)
