I had a X and wasn’t planning on upgrading given the big refresh excepted next year. But with a credit my work happened to have and the sale of my X, I could get the 11 essentially for free. So why not.
Pluses
The camera. This is a substantial camera upgrade. Both videos and stills look noticeably better in nearly all conditions, and that’s before factoring in some of the fancier new features (night view, wide angle). My wife has an XS and now grabs my phone when she wants to snap a photo.
Screen size. You do notice the extra screen size and you get some of the landscape features on the MAX (eg side bar in email). Plus I alway felt the X XS size looked a little narrow when reading in portrait mode. The 11 has a more natural aspect ratio. Yet the phone doesn’t feel big or heavy and fits in most pant pockets comofortably I had a 7 plus for a year and couldn’t stand it. So this size seems like a nice compromise.
Battery. My X battery was at 93%. So my comparison is between a mildly compromised X and 11. That said, the 11 seems to last forever. Yesterday I had about 50% left after 7:30am to midnight day. I’d be at 50% midday with the X
Speed. I thought iOS 13 gave the X a nice speed bump. The 11 is a bit quicker but less noticeable than I expected.
Equal
Looks. I got the red. It’s a sharp fun looking phone. Not as refined as the X or the new 11pros.
Minuses
The screen quality. The screen is very good and bright. But a noticeable step down from the X. Everything looks slightly less sharp and deep. You noticed it side by side with an X or XS but no
Size weight. While not uncomfortable, I do notice the extra weight. And the phone will peek out of the corner of some pockets. Not like a max but I could see the phone being too big for some.
Bottom line. The camera battery and slightly different form factor make this a solid update. But the slight downgrade in screen quality and no killer new features make me wonder if I’d have upgraded without the discount I got at work.
