Hello Everyone,

Thanks to this forum, I was able to get the m3 pro instead of the m3 base model. I think I would be fine with the m3 but since I want to use my ultrawide monitor, the m3 pro would help. There was no base M3 Pro 512 GB available so I go the M3 Pro 1 TB model instead.

1.) Do you recommend using the migration assistant to move files from my old MacBook Pro to the M3 Pro? I only have a bunch of files on the desktop and my creative cloud folder. Does the migration assistant install apps automatically? Or it's better to install apps fresh? I don't want to add some old bloat from my old mbp.

2.) Planning to design my icons for the dock, what's the best method to do this? I already designed some of them in Illustrator.

Have you already set up the new MBP?
Put a "new" account onto it?

If you already created a new account, it can make migrating from an "old" account on another Mac problematic.
The new Mac may toss up "permissions problems" when you try to copy your older files over, even when using migration assistant.

I don't use Adobe apps.
But don't you have to either "re-install" or "re-register" when you move from one (physical) Mac to another? Perhaps others will comment.

There is a workaround to moving files "from old to new", but it's best done with an "intermediate" drive, such as a USB drive, a flash drive, etc.
a. copy files to intermediate drive
b. connect drive to the NEW Mac
c. click ONE TIME on the drive icon, then bring up "get info" (you can type command-i)
d. at the bottom of get info, click the lock and enter your NEW password (the one you're using on the NEW Mac)
e. put a checkmark into "ignore ownership on this volume" (sharing and permissions)
f. close get info.

Now you can copy from the drive to the NEW Mac, and what you copy will "come under the ownership" of your NEW account.

Yes, my new mbp has a new account. I haven't done the Migration Assistant yet but I'm glad I waited for your reply. Most of my files are in the Creative Cloud Folder (Adobe Files) so I'll probably upload them to iCloud before fully reinstalling my old one. I don't have a USB drive available and my files are around 4GB total.
