Upgraded to lion, now i cant open system preferences!!!

I read thru some of the post and couldnt find any help on this issue that Im having. My issue is that after I upgraded to lion, I am no longer able to get into my system preferences without it freezing. I can force quit it but thats it. I am trying to get into all the other settings on my computer but I cant. If anyone has seen this issue or had this problem and fixed it then please help... Thanks in advance!!!

I still have problems with SP. Things are more stable, but I don't know why. My desktop remains black and there are no desktop pictures/screensaver options. I'll live with the black desktop for now. My focus switched to lost software, the very-slow-start-up and then going to sleep, no, wait. . . I'm going to shut-down problem. Reboot takes far too long. I'm limping along while I wait for the next updater. Trying to find the software key for Office Mac 2011 since I don't have that anymore.
