Hi,

I'll be upgrading some components to extend the life of my Macbook for another year or so.

8GB RAM - G.Skill DDR3 1333Mhz
128GB Crucial M4 SSD
500GB Momentus XT

So how does this look? 128GB for my boot drive and 500GB for storage. Or should I swap the 500GB for a larger one?

^^^ Looks great! You'll get more than an extra year from that set-up

Thanks :) I'm reassured by that comment. Will be going out tomorrow and purchasing these parts.

you may want to look twice at that RAM - the speed is listed at 1333. not sure what the RAM in your 08 model runs at, but i know it's not 1333. Maybe it won't make a difference, but I'm not all that technical... someone else might have thoughts on this

you can always check out OWC and see what they recommend for your particular model

I'm pretty sure it'll automatically clock down to 1067Mhz, this means I can reuse the RAM when I really need to upgrade to a newer model.

That will work fine. Don't bother with the momentus XT for storage though, it's a bit pricey for that. I'd get either a 750GB or a 1TB (9.5mm height) 5400 RPM drive, as you don't need anything faster for storage, and they are quieter as well.
