I have had my powerbook G4 for quite some time now (about 4 years?) and would definitely enjoy upgrading to a macbook pro, however money is tight and needed for other priorities.

I was wondering what might be some simple upgrades i can do to make my laptop run faster and smoother. Some issues I have been having are overall lagginess of my laptop, programs opening slow, switching between programs lag and using my hotkeys as well. When watching videos it cant seem to keep up with the videos on youtube and such. Also could use a new battery. I have thought of reformatting and updating with leopard as well.

Would i be able to cheaply upgrade my laptop or would i be better off saving for a new MBP? Thanks in advance for the help!

Save for a new one.

A new battery is going to be between £50 - £90
More ram and a quicker HD - £100 - £150

basically 1/4 to a 1/5th and theres little point in extending it's life as you'll probably not be able to get support for universal apps much longer.
