Today i own a 12" iBook, 1Ghz G4, 768Mb ram (256 internal+512 in expansion), 60Gb 4200rpm HDD, and little more than 2 years old.
I use this computer every day and its my primary computer at work and at home.
My problem with this is its a really small screen to use for everyday work, plus, the G4 is starting to feel alittle old.
My first idea was to get a new iMac this fall, but now i might have changed my mind. I just got a hold of a 20" Sun CRT monitor, that im driving at 1600x1200, using external mouse and keyboard setup.
This feels like a new computer. If I dont have to buy a new mac i might consider upgrading this old thing, and save a buck!
What do you guys think about getting:
1Gb stick = 1.25Gb ram?
80-100Gb hard drive with 5400 or 7200 rpm? (Storage size is of no concern.)

What would u recomend that i would buy to get more action from my old buddie?

I play alot of WoW on it (yes!), and programing and simulations (cpu and mem intence)

Thanks for any comments!

How easy is it to replace the hard drive? I might think about getting the memory, but getting an external drive for use at home, and use on a new computer. Save the money for now so you can get a new iMac sooner.

A faster HD will make a big difference, but I think the RAM is more important:)

Are you using the screen spanning doctor?

i'd say go for the max RAM (i'm not sure if the most the iBook will hold is 1.25 or more) and forget about upgrading the HD. i'd get an external HD if you don't already have one. sounds like you can get a few more years outta that machine if you treat it well. :)

I really dont need more harddrive space.
Well i will buy a bigger if i upgrade, but the sole purpose of upgrading the harddrive would be to gain performance.
Im noot too worried to take the iBook apart for for replacement.

Yup, 1.25 is maximum.
I think ill go for the mem upgrade, but i havent decided yet about the HDD.
I would like to belive that it would make a difference because that would make it even faster, but maby thats just wishing?

Thanks everyone!

Thanks everyone for the advice!
I will definetly upgrade my old iBook and have that for another year or so as my main computer.
The RAM upgrade i will do, but im not so sure about the harddrive.

Does anyone have experiance in performance upgrade in the harddrive?
