I have an early 2015 12-inch MacBook Retina 1.3GHz 8GB Ram with Intel HD Graphics 5300, Running High Sierra 10.13. Can this be upgraded to the latest Big Sur without causing any issues?

Thanks

In a word, no.

Big Sur have little bit trouble at this moment of development.

But you can look to Catalina. There is more chance to luck without pain.

I have no issue running Big Sur on my mid-2014 13" Retina MBP.

It can indeed be upgraded to Big Sur. I am running it on the 2015 MacBook base model’s 1.1ghz chip and have had no problems whatsoever. I would recommend before upgrading making a backup of your system in case you decide to go back to High Sierra for any reason.

Hello Kat
I wonder if you have install Big Sur after all. I saw the new Monterey and it seems very attractive, but I am still in High Sierra.

MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015)
Processor: 1.2 GHz Intel Core M
Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Mine is lower than yours, should I change it to Big Sur or do you think that Catalina is better?
Thank you
Peter

I have an early 2015 MacBook Air 8GB, 256 which I just updated to Big Sur from Catalina yesterday. I procrastinated a long time in updating because I was afraid of the big differences I might find. Was finally persuaded because I might be in the market for a new MacBook and would be faced with transferring files from an old OS to a new one. Plus, if I keep my current Mac, I wonder if updating through two successive OSs would cause problems (Catalina directly to Monterey). As it turned out, updating was easy. And the "big differences" I feared didn't materialize. I can use the new stuff or not, as I please.

Thank you JParker.
It seems then that yours it is similar to mine, (
Processor: 1.2 GHz Intel Core M
Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3)
I thought I would not be able to upgrade to Monterey (https://www.engadget.com/macos-monterey-compatibility-200749281.html?guccounter=1 ) apparently Apple has kindly left us out, only Macbook 2016 or above. Please, correct me if i am wrong
Cheers

Apple says it will be compatible with early 2015 MacBook Air, at least per this: monterey-preview.

There is a difference between the 12" MacBook and the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models. The OP and Peter Pengkai both have an early 2015 12" MacBook, and that machine will not be compatible with Monterey. Only the early 2016 and later MacBooks will be able to install and benefit from Monterey.

Ah! Did not pick up on the 12 inch part; sorry!

It is not uncommon for people to become confused between
MacBook
MacBook Air
MacBook Pro

Similarity in the names sometimes results in people casually dropping off the all-important rest of the name and just saying, "MacBook," when they really mean "MacBook Pro" or "MacBook Air." Also, earlier versions of the MacBook model were quite a bit different than the 12" model called "MacBook," which adds to the confusion!
