Finally decided to bite the bullet and replace my trusty iMAC's hard drive. Watched the video's online and am relatively confident as a novice hardware engineer I can make the changes DIY !

The big question ... what hard drive should I replace the existing one with ?

Should I consider a 'SSD as a Fusion drive" and fully utilise my 1TB external or would that just require me to acquire a second back-up drive to keep things safe.

What have others used? I don't need massive storage space in the iMAC so are there access speed considerations?

I'd hope to get a couple of years out of my iMAC - the 24" screen is still crystal clear and I don't want to dump it due to a failing hard drive.

Many thanks in advance . . . Stu

Go with an ssd. It's the best thing you can do. I wouldn't recommend using an external as a primary storage solution. The transfer rates aren't good enough

Ok so, SSD internal for storage/speed bump - any views on which ones are best or are they all much the same quality?

Not sure I understand Fusion drives anyway :)
