Upgrading and switching sims?

On our family plan my wife is eligible for an upgrade and I'm not. When the next iPhone get released assuming the sim cards are the same size, is it as simple as using her upgrade and swapping sim cards? To clarify, that would be her getting my 4s and me getting the new one. She could care less which one she has. I'm the geek.

Actually its pretty much confirmed the sims will not be the same size.
You can contact your carrier and do an upgrade swap. Where her subsidy is used and you put the new iphone on your line with your number instead.
They do it all the time.
