Does upgrading the base MBA to 16GB RAM give you the extra GPU core or do you have to order the increased storage model to get the extra core?

No it doesn't. You have to order the model that comes with 512GB of storage default to get the 8 Core GPU. That said, the performance difference you get with the extra core (~10% or less) really isn't worth the cost, I'd say (and did) just save your (my) money.

Thanks, Malus120. I don't really need the 16GB RAM for my uses either but for an extra $180 via the education store, I figured it was a good investment.

How are you liking yours? What are your primary uses?
