Ok this may sound like a ridiculous question but I need an answer...is it possible to upgrade the firmware like you could in the mac pro (4,1 to 5,1) essentially making it a later year supporting Mojave? I am wanting a 2012 mac mini but I want the upgradeability in ram and memory. Mac says that Mojave can only operate on "Late 2012 or later" Please help. And thank you in advance!

You can upgrade the RAM in the 2011 or 2012 mac mini. Its the 2014 mac mini that has soldered on RAM.

There is a tool to install Mojave on unsupported macs, but I've never tried it and know nothing about this process: http://dosdude1.com/mojave/

Its always easier and no surprises to just get a supported mac. If you haven't acquired one yet, try and find a 2012 mac mini.

You cannot convert the 2011 Mini to be a 2012- the hardware is different, unlike is the case with the Mac Pro.
