So if I sell my 2018 MBP and buy the 16 inch MBP, I will have to top up around $900 to gain the following specs:

15.4 inch -> 16 inch screen
2.2 GHz 6 core -> 2.6 GHz 6 core (newer gen)
32 GB 2400 MHz RAM -> 32 GB 2666 MHz RAM
550X graphics -> 5300M graphics
storage unchanged at 512 GB
**** keyboard -> better (hopefully) keyboard
1.5 years AppleCare (non-plus) left -> 3 years AppleCare Plus

I don't play a lot of games, and mainly use it for work/coding. Seems like much of the upgrades are going to be barely noticeable, so a lot of the cash is really going towards the larger screen and better keyboard, which I value a lot. However, the increase in screen real estate also seems barely noticeable.

Should I go for it or keep and wait a couple more years for a better 16 inch model iteration?

Hi, as far as I know new 16” MBP still comes with same 9th gen i9 chips. Intel hasn’t released “H” series chips yet so still 9th gen.

In your situation the only noticeable improvement I see it’s the keyboard, GPU and better thermals.

He has the 2018 15 inch, that is 8th gen chips. i7 8750H vs i7 9750H

What I meant is that intel hasn’t released any new gen for H chips yet, hopefully new 13” MBP will have “ice lake”
in any case 8th gen vs 9th gen isn’t a big improvement, still 14mm chips both.

Your spending 900 dollars to get a new keyboard, and a bit more screen real estate (not that much to be honest). I don't know, its hard to justify ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
