Upgrading from 4.0 to 4.1 - best path to maximise future unlocking possibilities?

I have an iPhone 4 running OS 4.0. I'd like to upgrade to 4.1. At some point (6 months or so) I'd ideally like to jailbreak and unlock it. Is there any particular way that I should go about upgrading to 4.1? Should I follow these instructions, for instance?

Yes, using TinyUmbrella one can upgrade an iPhone 4 to 4.1 without getting the new baseband.

However, since new JB tools are being developed, in 6 months there may be a better solution.
