It’s time for me to upgrade but I’m coming from an older phone. I’m coming from a 12 Pro Max Space Grey that surprisingly still has 86% battery. It’s been used for a little over 4 years and charged with Apple’s original 5w charger.

The 12 Pro Max is before the island. It’s before 120hz refresh rates. It’s made of stainless steel and glass and is somewhat relatively thin still.

Its physical dimensions sit right in the middle between the Air and 17 PM. My 12 PM has a depth of .29 while it’s much closer to the weight of the 17 PM.

The camera has a .5x, 1x, and 2.5x camera so I’ve never had 4x or 8x in my pocket. My camera is 12 megapixels on each lens as well.

The battery sits at 3687mah vs 5088 for 17PM and 3149 Air. Yet video playback doesn’t last as long as either newer phones.

So both phones present a nice upgrade when considering the Air and 17 PM. For me this comes down to features I’ve never had so may not miss versus thinner and much lighter.

Anyone else coming from a much older phone?

I’ve got a 12PM and will upgrade this year. I’m the opposite of you, still deciding between 17 Pro and base 17. Looking forward to dropping down in size and weight, and 6.3” shouldn’t be too much of a change. Waiting to see if new modem and new Pro antenna really improves reception, otherwise may go with 17.

Will certainly miss the beautiful Pacific Blue 12PM. I’ve gone caseless for 4+ years with no problems but wondering if I should get a case for the 17 Pro if i decide on that one, given the early feedback on scratches and damage.
