I'm about to get myself a current Mac Pro "tube tower" (upgrading from a 2x3.0GHz 8-core Mac Pro) and am wondering what would work best for what I plan to do.

Most of what I hope to do with it will be audio/music production (with extensive use of Propellerheads Reason and Logic Pro X) but I also work a lot with VMware Fusion and Second Life (Linden Lab's virtual world.)

Currently, I have a nVidia GTX680 video card in my tower with 2GB VRAM and have not hit any performance walls with it. However, I'd want to have some expansion for Linden Lab's next-generation virtual world and other virtual environments that might come.

Would I be safe with 4 cores, even with extensive use (2-4 VMs) of VMware Fusion and software synthesis? Would 2GB VRAM be sufficient for light 3D use (mostly 1080-resolution Final Cut Pro X)?

Thanks in advance!
