upgrading from a desktop pc to a macbook pro for 3d

I have an older desktop pc, 3.0ghz pentium 4 with a nvidia quadro fx 3000 graphics card. If I upgrade to an upcoming i7 macbook pro will I notice an increase in speed and power, how much so do you think? I'd like to use the laptop as a desktop replacement for 3d graphics and rendering. I understand we don't know the full specs of the macbook pro's to be. I'm just wondering whether I'll still need the old box for rendering.
