I have had my trusted iPhone 8 since it released 6 years ago. I changed the battery this summer, and planed to hang on to it another year or two, even though it is unsupported by iOS17. But now my back camera is broken. I can get it fixed, but I’ve realized that its time to get a new phone.

My first thought is to get the base model iPhone 15, but the price is really high here in Norway (1112 USD). I’ve also heard that iPhone 14 and 13 is basically the same phone. I can get the iphone 13 for 694 USD.

Coming from iPhone 8, I’ve realized that I don’t need the latest and greatest. Getting USB C will be more a hassle than a blessing, and every one in my extended family has an iPhone with lightning. I don’t care about the dynamic island. I do care about the camera, but coming from iPhone 8 I guess both phones is a significant upgrade anyway.

So I guess iPhone 13 is the best buy, but I am worried that the phone will be unsupported two years earlier than iphone 15 (of course). Am I stupid for buying the 13 over 15?

The 13 is fine. Buy what you need. Nothing more, nothing less. If you happily used the 8 then you will be happy with the 13 for years to come.

I suggest to get regular 15 version if the Pro 15 version is not in the budget. When upgrading, unless there is a financial concern, get the latest release to have the latest technology feature improvements. Unless you do not care about getting the latest technology improvements then get what the best price you can get. Wish the best to get the best one for you!

I would avoid the 13. Get the 14 for the 6GB RAM for greater longevity. Get the 15 for the 48MP camera and Dynamic Island.

you've been using a Touch ID iPhone with the home button for soooo long that using it has become 2nd nature (like I have).
I recently purchased an iPhone 11 with Face ID and .... I don't like Face ID at all. I much prefer the home button.

Something to consider... Maybe get the SE. Its a sure bet.
