So I've tried many times to look at guides and forums but can't find a good answer of the question of how to upgrade to ios4 from my jailbroken (non-tethered, older bootrom) 3.1.2

Also is it possible to actually retain the data on my phone through backing it up? I know there's an app via Cydia that will make iTunes backup even my Cydia data but I'm not sure exactly how hat works and everything I've read so far isn't very clear on the particulars of what all I need to do to upgrade and not lose any data. I know that once I've upgraded and keep my data it should be easy to jb my ios4 by just going to jailbreakme.com, correct?

If anyone can help out, or point to a guide that would answer these questions that I haven't been able to find somehow, that would be quite helpful.

Thanks!

Also I heard that upgrading makes you lose space on your iPhones HD, is that the case?
