Upgrading from Macbook to Macbook Pro-time machine help

I am selling my 2.1ghz Penryn Macbook to buy a 2.16ghz Santa Rosa Macbook Pro. I have a current Time machine backup on an external drive. I can't use migration assistant, as I won't have both computers at the same time. I have thought about using Carbon Copy Cloner, but I can't figure out how to clone without erasing the target disk.

My question is, will the time machine backup work for all my files?
