My mom is eligible for an upgrade. She told me I could upgrade to the iPhone 4 on her line. The plan was to just order it and have it come to the house, but the iPhone uses micro-SIM now. So can we just order it like normal and then when it gets here, just take it to the AT&T store and have transfer my data plan, number, etc to the micro-SIM in the iPhone 4?

Same problem here

I'm wondering about this as well. My aunt is rocking a 3g and is long over due for the upgrade, but is more than willing to give the 4g to me when it comes. I've called customer service to see if the sim switch could be an option but no one knows anything of the possibilities.I'm keeping my fingers crossed til we find out, but surely they'd have a utility to make the sim/msim transfer happen?

They should just activate a new micro sim card for you if you ask. So if I understood correctly you should ask for a micro sim card for your iPhone 3G account.

Wow this will be a problem. Hadn't even thought of it.

I am planning to do the same but this would be a big hassle because 1) I have to change mine to a micro-sim and 2) change the other person's from micro-sim to regular sim.

Thank you for your patience! An AT&T sales representative will be with you shortly.
You are now chatting with Kimberly M., an AT&T sales representative.
Kimberly M.: Welcome to AT&T online Feature Sales. How may I assist you with your features today?

: I plan to upgrade to the Iphone 4 when it is available in a few weeks. I will be using a different line on my family plan to upgrade, however, I want to use the phone for my line. What is the best way to go about doing this?

Kimberly M.: I'm not sure but I think that if you just upgraded on the other line and then switched the SIM cards it should work; but I cannot guarantee this.

: Well, usually that would be the case but the new iPhone 4 will use a micro-sim card, which is smaller than the normal sim. That's why I'm asking now. Would a simple call to AT&T be able to activate the sim to work with my phone or what?

Kimberly M.: Yes, I would assume so. After all they are all AT&T compatible devices so I think that should work fine.

: Okay, when I do upgrade online would service be interrupted for the line that I chose to use the upgrade from?

Kimberly M.: I don't believe so. I think once you receive the phone you would activate it online.

: Okay, I will probably call and try to order over the phone and explain my questions just in case, but thanks.

Kimberly M.: Are there any other features I can help you with?

: No thank you.

Kimberly M.: Thank you for choosing AT&T. Have a great day!
Gotta love AT&T reps, haha.

I was planning on this too. anyone no if you can just get another micro-sim from at&t(they're free or like 5 bucks) and will it work in a 3g?

You could always try the sim hack that was going around for the iPad..

Don't have the exact link, but with an exacto knife you can cut your current sim card to fit the micro-sim

I would think that AT&T would just issue you a micro-sim if you asked for it...

Then again, it's AT&T so who knows...?

Haha, yeah but it seems AT&T reps don't even know what a micro-sim is so I don't know if they'll have some at the store, that's why I'm hoping it could just be done by computer over the phone, as smooth as possible.

Well before the the iPhone 4 was announced, there was never a micro-sim card. So before the iPhone comes out the AT&T stores will start stocking up on the micro-sims. You can order it online and they will provision a sim for that number but won't actually be active until you activate it at home. But you'll more than likely have to go to an AT&T store to burn a new sim card for your line.

From my understanding if I order an iPhone online for one of the lines, you can't just activate it for another line once at home. Anyone know what they would do if you do this?

I have a quick question. I'm thinking of using my husbands upgrade, but will this effect my upgrade eligibility date? I am eligible for the $399/$499 pricing but didn't want to mess that up if he wants to use it to upgrade later. Thanks!
