Upgrading from Panther to Tiger

I have the upgrade disc but just want to upgrade the os while leaving all my old apps as they are. eg. I have my iphoto libary and iTunes on an ext.
F/W HD which I leave conected all the time and the USB is Audio Capture UA-20//because the "sound out" on the ordi is broken.)
I'm worried that if I unplug everything while installing Tiger I'll lose all the conections. Or can I just install Tiger while leaving everything pugged in.
I have an old G3 Pismo.

If your USB audio is compatible with Tiger (check with the manufacturer first), then you should be good to go, and you shouldn't have to disconnect anything.
