upgrading grahics card for mp but not from apple

i wonder if one could upgrade the graphics card to a 8800gt per say from like newegg and save a lot.

all that you would have to do i would imagine is just get the right kexts and what not from the hackintosh community and then you could upgrade and be independednt from apple and when they offer the card

thoughts?

I just know there has been a really good thread about flashing generic 8800GT cards to work in the Mac Pro.

Search around. Try 8800 GT EFI64 ROM if you have a 2008 Mac Pro or 8800 GT EFI32 ROM if you have a 2006 Mac Pro.
