I plan on upgrading the hard drive on my aluminum MB.
I will be purchasing the new HD with an USB external enclosure.

The process I will use to transfer all my data will be do connect the new HD via the enclosure and then use a program to clone my existing HD to my new one. (Can I do this within MAC OS or will I need a 3rd party app?)

Is this a good reliable process to use to keep all my data? Will I run into any problems once I install the newly cloned HD and power up?

Use CCC to clone the HD. The whole HD will be cloned so everything is EXACTLY the same, thus you should not face any issues
