Upgrading Hard Drive :)

So I bought my Macbook in Spring of 09' I believe and it came with a 160 GB hard drive that has only about 8 GB of space left.

I am looking to upgrade but have a few questions...

1) What are the top hard drives recommended that has above 300 GB of space? In terms of speed, quiet, battery life, quality, etc.

2) How would I make this replacement without losing what I have on this old hard drive...I'd like to transfer my stuff on this Hard drive onto the new one.

3) I would have to install Lion onto the new hard drive from my CD correct?
 
1. The Seagate Momentus XT 500 GB and 750 GB HDD is liked.
2. Buy new HDD, get USB enclosure for 2.5" S-ATA HDDs, put new HDD into that enclosure, connect HDD to Mac, format new HDD correctly*, download and open CarbonCopyCloner, select old HDD as SOURCE, new HDD as TARGET, press CLONE.

3. No need, if 2. is successful. And Lion does not come on a CD or DVD. It is downloaded and bought via the Mac App Store (MAS) for 29 USD or bought on a USB flash memory thumb drive from Apple for 69 USD.
 
okay so I have done some research on this Seagate Momentus XT HD and have read about 40% of the people complain about vibrations and loud noises.

Has anyone else experienced this?

also, which one do most get? there are so many different kinds at different prices.


Also, the SDD will fit in my laptop correct? (just triple checking) lmao

I don't have that HDD, but if you don't want to wait, you can search for similar threads.
Also know, that threads on a message board are no good and objective representation of problems, as people without problems with any of their hard- or software, don't post that they don't have a problem, thus you see more posts with problem related content than ones without. And where have you got that "40 %" number?

Yes. SSDs have a maximum height of 9.5 mm anyway, thus it will fit into all MacBook and MacBook Pro models.

No, one is a normal HDD, one is a Hybrid HDD/SSD, with 4 GB SSD storage.

so the hybrid isn't a full SSD in terms of performance huh?

I did a search, i got random different topics come up that weren't related to momentus xt

so i went into every store possible and no one cares this in stock.
Is it being discontinued or it never sold in stores?
