ok. so im planning on upgrading my hard drive. i have the stock 120GB 5400 RPM drive that came with my macbook and i need more space. so i was looking on newegg.com (any suggestions to any other websites would be appreciated). I want a 7200 RPM drive and something 320 GB or larger. so i saw these 2. a WD and a Hitachi. i have a WD 500GB usb external and its worked great. i dont have any experience with Hitachi though. any thoughts on which drive is better? which one would you get?

Thanks for the help!

The WD Scorpios and Seagate Momentus lines are both awesome. At the current time, 320GB is the largest 7200rpm laptop drive available.

I purchased the Hitachi 320gb 7200rpm a couple months ago.

I upgraded from a 320GB WD Scorpio Blue. I wanted a 7200rpm and saw the same deal on newegg and purchased it. IMHO, you won't see that much of a performance difference. The hitachi drive is louder then the scorpio blue.

Seagate has a 500GB 7200rpm (currently the largest laptop drive) for $130 at macmall but is out of stock like everyone else.

I purchased a 7200 RPM 500 GB Seagate from tigerdirect. Its very quiet and very powerful.

I am currently have an Hitachi 320GB internal that I installed about a month ago. I don't know about you, but I am going to stick with Hitachi because its the only internal HD's I have ever had. I used to have the 120GB Hitachi that is the stock HD that came with my Mac. You might even currently have a Hitachi internal..... you should probably check on that and see if that changes your mind.

Got the Hitachi TravelStar 7200 RPM 320 GB in this MacBook. Got it several months ago from Other World Computing for about $120 after rebate. Works great. Coming from the 120GB that came in this thing, the performance boost surprised me. This drive is quieter than the original, and doesn't seem to generate as much heat.

i think im going to go with WD. i have several friends that have their hard drives and they all seem to work great. i know mine does. thanks for the advice!
