Unfortunately it's not quite that simple. Beginning in 2009 Apple began using HD's that had temp sensor circuitry integrated into the drives they use. Most SATA 3 drives do not have those. Some people have found hacks for bypassing this however if you choose to go this route it may negatively impact your warranty, that is assuming you care about the warranty. While it can be done there are caveats you need to be aware of. Once you know the caveats then you can decide for yourself if you want to proceed.
