upgrading iMac 2.16GHZ core 2 duo to 4GB

I am wanting to upgrade my memory from 2 - 512 memory sticks to 4GB. I found some Patriot memory, 2 2GB for a good price but I am not familiar with that brand. Does anyone know if this is a reputable brand or should I keep looking?

I have not heard about Patriot ram. Do a search I think the max ram for that iMac is 3GB.

Sorry. I had been to Apple's website and saw that it would take 4GB of ram, just didn't read down further where it said it would only utilize 3GB of that. Thanks for saving me some money!!!

Anyway, what brands of ram should I stay away from?

Unfortunately your iMac has support for only 3GB ram, 1x1GB and 1x2GB module.

Actually, it will take 2 x 2 GB but only use 3.3 GB. You recieve the 128 bit addressing from matched pairs even with 2 x 2GB.

I really don't understand all this, but will I still get that if I do a 2GB and 1GB module upgrade or does that occur only with a matched pair?
