I'm currently working on bringing back to life a black Macbook that is "stuck" at Lion(doesn't officially support anything newer). With a new SSD it's quite peppy and is useable for almost anything I could want, but I'm having a little bit of trouble with iPhoto.

It currently has iPhoto '09, 8.1.2, which does NOT permit syncing photos via iCloud. I know there is a version for Lion which is capable of doing this, as I was running Lion on my main computer(a Macbook Pro) up until March or April of this year and it worked fine.

When I go into the App store and attempt to download iPhoto 9.6(the only version I can find) I'm told that I must be running 10.10.

Even going back into my "purchases" history, I find a version that I "purchased" on August 12, 2012. As this was right around the time I upgraded to my iPhone 4s, I'm assuming that I likely upgraded iPhoto at the time for the exact reasons I'm wanting to now. When I click the download link at this location, I'm also warned that I need 10.10.

I'm guessing(but don't know) that I probably need some version of iPhoto 9.x prior to 9.6. I've tried searching on Apple's website for a direct download link for it, but have been unsuccessful.

I've also run Software update and checked the updates tab in the App store multiple time, and have not been prompted to update iPhoto.

Can anyone advise me of a way to install a newer-but not the most current-version of this program that will run under Lion?

Thanks, but that gives me an error that I need 9.1 to install it.

I had previously tried to download 9.1, but was told that I needed iPhoto 9.0 to install the 9.1 update.

I can't seem to find 9.0 on Apple's website.

Perhaps if I call support they can give me a download code for the App store...

It sounds like you originally bought iLife 11 so I'm wondering if you were using Time Machine on your MacBook Pro with a large HDD?
If so dig into the Applications folder from a backup in March & copy the iPhoto.app into the Applications folder of your Black Macbook. It won't work properly as there are library files etc missing but fairly sure you should then be able to run the 9.4.3 update.

Actually, I don't recall buying it per se, but I'm pretty sure that was the version pre-installed on my Macbook Pro in the spring of 2012. The purchase date is listed as April 1 2012, which I'm pretty sure was the day I bought my MBP(or at least within a couple of days of buying it).

Perhaps not having bought it is the reason for my trouble.

I have used Time Machine with that computer from the beginning, so will dig back through and see what I can find.

I'm happy to report that(as was suggested above) I was able to extract an old copy of iPhoto 9 from my Time Machine drive, and now have everything updated and working.

Thanks again for the help!
