upgrading jb iPhone 2G from 1.1.4 to 2.1... will i lose SMS messages?

hello there,

i was hoping to finally upgrade my jailbroken iPhone 2G from 1.1.4 to 2.1.

i am afraid that i will lose things such as my sms messages, notes etc...

can anybody confirm that these are backed up when the iPhone is synced, and if the backup can migrate from 1.1.4 to 2.1?
