Same boat with my 2010

I'm planning to upgrade the RAM and HDD in my 2010 13" also, but I know to go for Seagate. Get the Seagate Momentus XT; you can get 500 or 750GB and get near-SSD speeds for slightly above HDD prices. This really helps out a lot. Plus with the added RAM I plan to get it'd probably help you out too.

All of the linked drives would work. I'd probably go with the Samsung if I had to choose between them. But honestly, I'd pick up a SSD and 2 x 4GB of RAM for that computer(it's what I did with my mid 2009 MBP).

OWC does have the 512 gb, Sata II, Toshiba SSD for $299. Should work in your MBP without any issues. That and 8 gigs of RAM should give your current MBP a couple more years of use if you're not doing anything too demanding. And if you move on to a newer system, you can always put the SSD in a external USB3 caddy for some pretty darned speedy and durable external storage.

I just did ^^^^this^^^^ on my wife's 2011 MBP13 and it's awesome. Blazing fast AND huge capacity. The new Momentus XT (750GB) plus 8GB RAM will only cost $200; that can't be beat unless you don't really need more than 256GB space in which case a full SSD will be a little faster at a similar price.
