Hi guys

I have a macbook pro Mid 2010 15inch with 1tb HD and 8gb ram, A1286. Currently have 350gb of HD free.

However on startup and general browsing the laptop is really slow and sluggish and overheats. i have deleted stuff, closed down all programmes in the background and ran a few free cleanup tools To no avail.

I am thinking of upgrading to an SSD 2tb and wondering if the below is suitable and if 2tb is necessary or 1tb enough?

Also when transferring the data to new HD how long does this take and is the time machine the easiest way to do this? Thinking of taking it to an IT store to do

Crucial MX500 CT2000MX500SSD1 2 TB (3D NAND, SATA, 2.5 Inch, Internal SSD) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003J5JB12/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_dHUBDbEWT6PC0

Thanks

In SSD's it is a rule of thumb to get twice the amount you need. So if you have 1 TB HDD and 350 GB free, I would highly suggest a 2 TB SSD. The next thing is 3D NAND which is 3 Deep NAND. I have read some reviews that talk about the problems with multi-layer NANDS, and while it seems cool, I would say stick with 1D NAND. That means less write through, and probably longer SSD life.

Should work, but don't expect miracles. The SATA interface on your system has a rather limited speed (250 MB/sec). You current hard drive can send about 100 MB/sec. The new drive can do 500 MB/sec, but your interface will limit it to 250 MB/sec or so. Still it is over twice as fast.

But I would be concerned about throwing too much money into a system that is overheating and having other issues.

FWIW, if you are considering an upgrade, 2015 MBPs run at 2 GB/sec, 2018 near 3 GB/sec.
