I need some advice...

A few years ago, I replaced the hard drive (to SSD), increased the memory and switched the battery for my MacBook Pro 13inch unibody from 2010. I created a bootable USB to install the OS. It was totally successful with no issues.

Recently, I wanted to repeat the exact same process with my friend's computer which is a MacbookPro 15inch unibody from a little earlier, 2009 maybe. I replaced everything, plugged in the new bootable USB I created and it recognized it (my current laptop also recognizes it as an installer) but as soon as I clicked install, I got the grey 🚫 and nothing else would happen.

I tried connecting his computer to my computer via firewire/target mode and my computer doesn't recognize it.

Does anyone have a tip on what I could try next?

Which macOS are you trying to install? The maximum OS for a 2009 MBP is El Capitan 10.11.6.
