I'm currently using a mid 2013 11" macbook air. I use it at my desk 95% of the time with a thunderbolt monitor, usb apple keypad, usb printer and usb scanner and a thunderbolt backup drive with 2 TB ports. I also have an ethernet cable plugged into the monitor. The computer works fine for what I do and I like the small form factor because I travel with it and take it home every night.
The thunderbolt monitor has been cutting out intermittently, some days worse than others. I can usually get it back on by opening the MBA and unplugging and replugging the TB cable. I suspect the problem is with the cable which is attached to the monitor, but its getting time to replace the monitor anyway, I think I got it soon after they came out.
I'd like to get the LG 23.7 monitor that apple just announced. I think, with some adapters and a dock I could use all my peripherals. I would need a TB3>ethernet adapter, a TB2>TB3 adapter and a doc to provide 3 USB A/B ports. It looks like any macbook with a lightning port could use the new LG monitor, although I understand it would be at a lower resolution.
Does this setup sound like it would work or has anyone tried something similar? I will probably replace the MBA within a year or so with a new equivalent so I want to get a monitor that will have the ports I'll want then.
