I have Verizon as my mobile cell service and I'll be upgrading my iPhone 7 Plus to an iPhone 12. I really don't like the offer that Verizon has. Its offer is I can get a $699 credit spilt into 24 months, but I have to get one of their high tier unlimited plans, but if I don't get the higher tiers, they'll offer $64 for my iPhone 7 Plus 32GB. With the higher end plans, I'll pay an additional $60 to $75 more on my bill. For the last two days, I've been thinking of switching over to T-Mobile or AT&T since both of their unlimited 5G data plans with the iPhone 12 included will cost about a few dollars more than I'm currently paying on Verizon with the iPhone 7 Plus.

My questions are:
1. If I decide to switch from Verizon, out of AT&T and T-Mobile which is the better carrier in coverage, speed, and doesn't throttle during peak times?
2. If I decide to stick with Verizon, should I just go to Best Buy and get the $150 iPhone 7 Plus trade in credit and apply it towards the monthly iPhone 12 monthly payments and stay with my data plan? I could always upgrade to a higher tier plan when I pay off the phone in a few months.

First, research service in your area. Lower prices is good but not if you don't get signal. No one can tell you which is better for your use since this is highly location dependent.

For what it's worth, both AT&T and T-Mobile get good speeds at my location now. T-Mobile is greatly improved considering I used to need to go outside the building to get a signal. Alas, haven't really been able to test coverage yet due to COVID.

mark sure you read the fine print it may be a good deal but most require a number transfer or trade in or both in order too get the credit that's one thing I don't het about people that they think they find a good deal but then they don't read the find print on the deal on how it works

How much traveling do you do? I've found Verizon to have better coverage around the country so prefer it. I have an AT&T hotspot for data on other devices the comes close in coverage. No experience with T-Mobile.

Buy outright. No to ATT Unlimited Plan etc. Make it easier, buy unlocked model. 5G is limited, in its infancy, limited coverage, takes a hit on battery.

Look for improvements in iphone 14 and later (2022-23). I'd hold off until September for now - iphone 13.

You can setup iphone 12 with eSIM along with physical SIM if desired.

First, research service in your area.

Make sure that you have coverage in the places that you use it. Even if coverage is supposedly excellent on the maps, you might find yourself in a hole. If you can get a 30 day return policy that would give you the option of switching carriers if you find problems. Long term T-Mobile is going to be offering the best 5G coverage as they have the most available spectrum.

Purchasing outright without a contract allows you to change carriers as needed.

My choice has been T-Mobile, due to cost, no contract, and free (but slow) overseas coverage. Had very slow LTE coverage at home, but with 5G have reasonable speeds. But I'm in a hole ....
