Just wondering what the pros/cons are of upgrading Aperture vs buying a new full retail version. I am getting a new iMac when all the issues are sorted out and if I get the Aperture 3 upgrade it means installing Aperture, then installing the upgrade to 2, then installing the upgrade to 3. Seems like kind of a pain. Also curious if I end up with the exact same result by upgrading as if I were to just buy the retail version. For example, will doing the double upgrade take up more space on my drive than just installing a new version? Thanks in advance.

Aperture 1 and 1.5 will not run on SL. You have to buy Aperture 2, which you may be able to get for about $75 from a third party then the upgrade to 3 which is $100 today from Apple. Is it worth all that BS to save $25? Maybe. If you can find A2 for say $50 (dirt cheap) and then upgrade and save $50 then that may be worth it.

Why not buy a Mac then buy Aperture at the same time and with that they'd ship A3.
