Upgrading older iPad using new PC

Still here.
Hello,

My brother has an iPad which is not up to date enough to do an OTA update. He no longer has the PC he used to set it up/sync with. How can we use my PC without having to wipe everything off of the iPad?

I'm sure it's simple, I just can't seem to find the answer..
