upgrading online

I am a current AT&T and am on a family plan. I also am grandfathered into the unlimited data plan on one of my iPhones (only have 2 on the plan).

I qualify for the upgrade, so can I place my pre-order for 2 phones online? Will my unlimited data stay intact? Or do I have to place this order at an AT&T store after the phones are released?
