Is there any way to get from Mac OS X 10.2.8 (my current version) to 10.3.9 or later without buying an upgrade?

IF you know someone that bought a Mac with 10.3 you can use the Restore CD/DVD for that computer to install OSX 10.3 onto your system, and install the updates to 10.3.9
Just dont register.

Not legally. And even then only if there machine is in the same class as yours. For example PowerBook CD/DVDs work on other PowerBooks and on iBooks but do not work on Mac Minis, iMacs or PowerMacs.

Once again though this is theft.
