upgrading processor?

I have a Power Mac G5 that is still running Panther. I have decided to finally install Leopard. I have been reading about Snow Leopard, but it can only be installed on systems with the Intel processor. Please forgive me if I have some of the lingo wrong. My question, is it possible to put the Intel system in my machine or would it be more cost effective to just get a new machine? Or can it not be done anyway?
